Now more than ever, we are in debt. The whole nation is in debt, our country is in debt, and many countries in the world are in debt. Being in debt is not the end of the world; shift your focus to paying your bills. You can get rid of your debt without filing for bankruptcy in a number of ways:

1. Compile everything

Sit down, grab all your bills and start calculating your debt. Decide which the most important one to be paid first is. (Tip; it is the one with the highest interest). Write it down in a book or tape it to your refrigerator to remind you what you need to get rid of.

2. Start Researching

Once you know how much you owe, start finding ways to best pay your debt. Do you need help of a debt settlement company or can you manage on your own?

3. Have an "All must go Sale"

If you need the cash, best way to start is to look around your house, in the garage, in the basement, in that huge cupboard which is taking so much space. Make flyers; paste them at places you visit often and around your neighborhood. If you have mot used an item in the last 6 - 8 months, chances are you would not even notice if it was not there! What you might consider trash might be someone else's treasure.

4. Take a small loan

If the step above did not work to the extent you hoped for, do not despair. Check the best loan option for you. This can be borrowing from family or friends or even taking an actual loan with the bank. Take only enough money to pay the bills not a cent more, remember you have to pay this back too. Choose a repayment option you can afford and stick to that.

5. Curb your spending

The reason you got into trouble is because you overspent. So, exercise caution when spending, or better yet try to minimize unnecessary spending.

These are only a few ways that you can utilize to reduce or eliminate your debt without even filing for bankruptcy. There is no reason it will not work, you just need to put more effort into it.
