The best time to do regular maintenance home repair is summer time. Because if you do the maintenance during this time it is more convenient to work. Because when all repair and maintenance done during this season the next season which will be rainy days will not a problem in your home. You will no longer go up the roof to look where this drop of water came. You are already sure that it is well repair and old rusty roof are already change with new one.

This is the best time to give your house a complete check up before the rainy season comes. It's like going to a doctor and takes a regular check up yearly. It makes you secure that your house are in good and safety condition. You preserve the quality of your house and reduce the damage whenever the rain comes. I always make it a sure that my house are been checked by a professional.

Here are some advices in maintaining the house with the help of your household.

In roofs use prepainted roofs rather that painting newly installed ones because they last longer. If you already have unpainted roofing materials fitted, do not pain immediately after installation. As the surface will be oily and slippery. Either remove the shine by treating with vinegar or wait for five to six months before painting. If you paint the roof always apply primer first then finish with a paint of you choice of color. Don't forget to paint under the overlaps.

For gutters build a catch basin in order to keep the water coming out from digging a ditch next to the house. Connect it to a canal to keep the water flowing and to prevent well ups that might saturate the ground. Soaked ground can become a breeding ground of mold and mildew that will eat away the foundations and basement walls. If you were cleaning the gutter do not lean the ladder against it or you might damage it. Instead lean it against the nearest tree or wall. Workings with tall ladder have someone watch over you. Never do ladder tasks when you're the only one at home.

For doors if you have peeling surfaces sand down and apply a fresh coat of paint varnish. If there are mildewed doors with bubbles this always happens when the painting or varnish was done during humid day. Best thing to do is revarnish and do it around during noontime or early afternoon.

In windows if you are using steel windows like mine. You will experience rusty hinges. Just use automotive fluid to remove the rust before applying machine oil. In wall paint if you have marks left by grimy hands pencils etc. the best way is to remove this using mild solution of dishwashing liquid and water. Or you may use an all purpose cleaner and spot clean using a sponge of clean rag. Then rinse of thoroughly. For tougher stains, use stronger solution such as two table spoon of laundry detergent in a gallon of water. Well I guess maintaining the house in good shape in summer is a great job.
