We all want to build castles in the sky. We want to believe that in this day and time, fairy tales come true. But when all of this fails, we break down. The pain would be so overwhelming. And surviving it is certainly not easy. It would depend entirely on how we deal with the pain. Such is the way we had to endure break-ups.

Let the Pain take its course

When we experience break-up, it brings us too much disappointment and grief. We grieve perhaps not only because we have lost the one we love but also because our self-esteem and pride had been touched.

1. Stage of Denial. This is the first stage where we deny the reality of the loss. Here we feel shocked and too stunned to believe that we did break-up with the one we love.

2. Stage of Anger. Here we feel angry not only towards the person who afflicted the pain but may also be to the rest of world. We may even be angry at ourselves for letting things happen which we don't really have any jurisdiction over.

3. Stage of Bargaining. We may go on swallowing our pride left by saying 'I'd be good. I won't be such a sly one you've known, if only you'd take me back.' This holds true even if how embarrassing it can be when we look back at it.

4. Stage of Depression. After all has been said and done, we go into a stage of depression. This happens when all the intense feelings have started to wane although they may be still present inside us.

5. Stage of Acceptance. This is something worth the while that even if we are still feeling angry, we just come to terms with reality and not go on wallowing with guilt and self-pity.

When I say let the pain take its course, I meant to just let it happen. Bend but don't break. Remember that you still have life ahead of you.

Create a foundation of support

You have to remember that one lost love doesn't mean you have lost the others too. Your family and friends loves you more than the one who went away. They are a good foundation of support from which you can gather your strength from. They are the ones who can pull you out of being stuck in the quicksand.

If it is not meant to be it never is and perhaps it never will. Who knows what is written in the book of love story for you. Just don't take too long staring at the back of the one who went away because you might miss the one who is coming your way.

Learn and move on

This is the most important aspect. You have to learn from the pain and start moving on. Leave the past to the past but don't forget the lesson. Don't get stuck. It's just another bump in the road and you got to move otherwise it would cause traffic in the roads of life. You never want that to happen. Life is meant to be lived forward.

Whatever we feel, how painful it is for us, we should remember that there is nothing absolute in this world. Painful experiences such as break-ups are present to give us better understanding of life. It is an essential part of living.
