A beautiful slowly dipping sandy beach with crystal blue waters, limestone cliffs and lots of sunshine are what you will find in Cala En Porter. Also known as Cala'n Porter, this beach cove is located in Menorca's Alaior region. Located on the south central coast of the island of Menorca, Cala En Porter is every beach lover's dream, and ideal for a family holiday.

Cala En Porter and Son Bou are the largest resorts on the south central coast of Menorca. The Cala En Porter resort sits regally atop the cliffs overlooking the bay and beach. The terraces at the resort overlook the entire bay and beach area. Walking from the resort to the beach is no small feat, as the most direct route is the set of 192 steps that scale the side of the cliff. The cliffs on the opposite side of the bay are not yet developed, so their rugged beauty leaves a lasting impression with tourists. So a dotto train runs regularly to take holidaymakers to and from the beach areas.

In addition to the resort, the neighbouring village offers private villas and self-catering apartments for those seeking a more private holiday. The self-catering apartments are conveniently located in the village with supermarkets and a good selection of shops nearby to meet the needs of tourists.

The view inland from the resort is nearly as impressive as the view of the beach and bay area. Looking inland, Mount Toro and the 17th Century Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Toro are visible on most days. Each view is breathtakingly beautiful. Mount Toro is the highest point in Menorca at 1161 ft (354m) high. Its height makes it visible from nearly everywhere on the island.

According to legend, a few months after Christianity was restored on the island in 1288, a group of monks found a statue of the Virgin with a small lit lamp in a cave. In her honor, the monks built a small chapel that was rebuilt in the 17th century. The chapel is now known as the Sanctuary of the Mare de Deu del Toro that today houses a small community of nuns from the Franciscan order. Other spiritual and religious groups also use the chapel as a central meeting place.

The Alaior municipality and surrounding areas have a beautiful, lively culture. Many of the local customs can be traced back to the 14th century. Cultural celebrations can be observed at nearly any given time.

The Fiesta of Sant Llorenc begins the first weekend after August 10th each year. The celebration includes horse races, musical events, parades and sporting events. Officials and authority figures ask only that you follow common sense rules, such as not bothering the horsemen or horses and not touching or pulling the horses' reigns. Drinking in moderation, avoiding fights and not taking small children into crowded areas are highly advisable.

During March, the Alaior Country Fair takes place. This is one of Menorca's most important livestock fairs, though in more recent years it has taken on a more commercial theme. Agriculture is one of the largest sources of revenue, just behind tourism.
Beauty, extravagance and culture are certainly worthy reasons to book your holiday in Menorca or Cala En Porter. Legend and lore could easily be added to the list of reasons to visit the island. One legend in particular involves a pirate named Xoroi. The legend says a local girl was kidnapped and held prisoner in what is now known as The Cave of Xoroi for 10 years. The hideout was found when footsteps were tracked in the snow. Now the same cave that legend names as their hiding place is a bar by day and a disco at night.

Just another attraction among many during a Menorca holiday.
