Recent articles have reminded us that the land of ancient Perisia seems msyterious threat and source of comfort on what it has given to us all. To have been of the Persian empire was to have so inside the tent of cilized behavior, commerce, trust of the rights each other, proerty, values, languages. When Alexander conquered the world he really only took over oall the area areas that had been under the command of Persia at its height. To see the glorious richness, and the softness of kings holding hands, sweet harmony.
This enormous difference of what would on on display such as in Rome was gentle refined civility, not the head in the hand of all elsewhere. Alexander, our civilized genius tore and burned this magnificent Perspolis enough that Persia has never rebuilt at the site. And yet Greek culture arrived in full majesty, as Alexander married Roxanne, daughter of Darius, and urged large ceremonial marriage bettwen thousand of his men with ladies of Persia. So, through to Afghanistan we see monuments, and blue eys, of Greece and there are many an Alexander or Roxanne in many a small village the the land.
The arrival of Islam cause many rifts which have not healed: the fact that Iranians are not Arab brought immediate fracture which stands. What we need to remember is that the population of Iran today is double that in 1978. The new Iran does not really hate America, they are ordered to, some do, most do not. Universities are rife with free volices. The mad mullahs reject voices other than their own, insisting it is only they who speak to God. What rich cruel irony that Iran and Isreal, similiar attutudes to the rest of the world, face each other off.
Thank God they do not share border, feear God and Allah for missiles and nuclear weapons. Pray we pry. So for now, we play tennis with our good hand tied behind our back. And our racket up our ass. How when or why we recover, get the broom out all asses, get back to talking, and talk things out. The mad mullahs will fade, even while rages through all Araby. We must remember: these are not Arabs. These are our direct grandparents. And surely love can reach through to blood.
So on we go. We need to reach out to each other and find ways to communicate more, not build up walls to deeper mistrust and hatred. Such arrogance in the face of God and Allah and Buddha must really stop, when we do finally really my blood is your blood is their blood and stop the bleeding. It is time for a cilized way to enjoy an afternoon. Let's play tennis, anyone?
